MIAMI (07/24/02) - For the first time, Carnival Cruise Lines will accept advance reservations for shore excursions in conjunction with European cruises on its new Carnival Legend, entering service in August. The program is available on the 12-day Northern Europe cruise sailing roundtrip from Harwich, England, Aug. 24, and the 15-day transatlantic voyage departing Sept. 5 from Harwich and arriving in New York Sept. 20. Guests will receive a pre-request order form and a shore excursions brochure with their cruise documents. To reserve their excursions, they simply complete the form and fax or mail it to Carnival's tour operations department. All shore excursions request forms will be processed on a first come, first served basis, and guests will receive confirmation of their selections once on board. Payment will be automatically charged to guests' shipboard Sail & Sign accounts once the tours are confirmed.
"Many of our guests have stated a preference for reserving shore excursions in advance and we're pleased to be testing this new convenient option on the Carnival Legend's two European cruises," said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president. "We consider these voyages a good opportunity to try out this new program given the huge diversity of sightseeing choices that will be available on these itineraries." Dickinson added that, based on results of this test run, the company will look at adding an online advance reservations option for shore excursions fleetwide. Among the shore tours highlights on these voyages is a vintage steam train ride in Denmark, a ballet performance at the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, Russia, a canal cruise highlighting the charms of Amsterdam, a motorcoach tour encompassing the many famous and stunning sights of Paris, and a day-long tour to explore the beauty and character of the South of Ireland. A full-day excursion to Moscow via a chartered airplane from St. Petersburg will also be offered and will include visits to some of the city's most popular landmarks. Carnival Legend's European shore excursions will also include a variety of challenging golf courses, such as the Espoo Ringside Golf Club in Helsinki, Finland, and the Greenock Golf Club in Greenock, Scotland. Following its Europe program, Carnival Legend will operate two- and three-day cruises-to-nowhere and 11-day Canada/New England voyages from New York then sail on six-day Bermuda cruises from Baltimore and Philadelphia in October. Carnival Legend will then reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to operate a two-day cruise-to-nowhere and a series of eight-day Caribbean sailings from that port beginning Nov. 10. Following these sailings, the ship will launch a one-of-a-kind eight-day Caribbean cruise program from New York, May 13, 2003. More information is available on our Excursion Page for the new Carnival Legend golf cruise itineraries.
