Island of Cozumel's First Golf Course COZUMEL, Mexico-- Welcome to Cozumel Country Club. The ancient Mayan name of "Cuzamil" meant "Island of the Swallow". Golfers will now be finding even more birdies on Cozumel. The Island of Cozumel's first golf course is also the Riviera Maya's newest championship test of golf. Owned and Operated by ClubCorp International and designed by the Nicklaus Design Group, this environmental showcase of golf in Mexico has been carefully sculpted from the Mayan Jungle. The golf course is a masterpiece that makes its way through the jungle and around the native mangroves to offer a challenging experience to the serious golfer while allowing an enjoyable round for the not so serious. The four sets of tees allow golfers of all skill levels to enjoy their round of golf. There are only three areas on the golf course where golfers playing another hole are visible, allowing the golfers to enjoy the peace and quiet of the natural surroundings. Just 15 minutes from the international pier and 10 minutes from the airport, the golfer will find the rustic looking native palapa style clubhouse. Under the grass roof are the amenities found at most golf courses. The golf shop houses the latest in golf merchandise and is furnished with beautiful, native mahogany fixtures crafted by a local carpenter. Nicklaus rental clubs and Footjoy rental shoes are available for the golfers who arrive without their equipment. The practice area features a putting green as well as a chipping green with a practice bunker. The wide, two tiered practice tee allows plenty of room for practice or just warm up.
